Very warm temperatures continues to spread through the region Thursday, and will increase further Friday and Saturday. However, recent snow cover and melt will keep fuels wetter than normal, areas along the Missouri River will be more susceptible to higher end fire risks. Those risks grow Friday afternoon as relative humidity values fall near 20 to 25 percent, with occasional gusts to 20 mph. Saturday poses the greatest risk of the upcoming weekend with highs near 90 degrees, afternoon gusts of 15 to 20 mph and relative humidity values near 15 to 20 percent. The grassland fire danger index in areas along the Missouri River will rise to very high levels Saturday. A strong cold front moves through Sunday, raising humidity values and dropping temperatures. However, gusty winds to 25 to 30 mph may lead to elevated fire weather conditions. Looking ahead, dry weather persists into next week, with increased risks for gusty afternoon winds and increasing fire danger at times.
