FNUS63 KABR 211940 AAA RFDABR Rangeland Fire Danger Statement...UPDATED National Weather Service Aberdeen SD 240 PM CDT Sat Mar 21 2026 .DISCUSSION... Much above normal temperatures late this afternoon will return closer to normal for this time of year tonight into Sunday as a cold front sweeps through the area. Elevated fire weather conditions across central South Dakota this afternoon will improve as relative humidity values recover this evening as temperatures cool. An incoming cooler air mass will generate a period of gusty winds this evening into the overnight hours. An abrupt change in wind direction, from northwest to northeast along with gusts up to 40-45 mph will be possible during this time frame. If we happen to see any fires get started this afternoon or tonight, this sharp change in winds could be conducive to erratic fire behavior. Fortunately, the gusty winds will diminish by sunrise Sunday morning. Cooler temperatures and lighter winds during the day will lead to low to moderate grassland fire danger across the area.
