An Elevated area was added from southeast Idaho and northeast Utah

into southern Wyoming and western Colorado. West-northwest sustained

winds of 10-20 mph with gusts of 20-30 mph are likely amid minimum

RH of 5-15%. There remains concern that stronger flow aloft will

shift east before the afternoon and thus limit strong winds mixing

to the surface. However, most forecast guidance keeps slightly

stronger flow aloft near/over the Elevated area into the afternoon.

Additionally, HREF/REFS/NBM joint wind/RH probabilities show much of

the Elevated area with at least a 50% chance of having elevated fire

weather conditions during the afternoon into the evening, with

swaths of areas above 90%.

...Synopsis...

Upper-level troughing over the north/central U.S. will gradually

shift eastward into the Great Lakes region, while upper ridging

continues to strengthen and lift northward across the western CONUS.

A dry airmass will persist in the Interior West amid a very dry

fuelscape, but weakening mid/upper-level flow as the trough departs

should limit broader sustained winds to less than 15 mph. However,

locally elevated fire concerns may emerge across southeast Idaho

into portions of the Colorado Plateau and adjacent higher elevations

where terrain-driven winds combine with RH values of 5-15%. Farther

west, locally elevated fire weather conditions are expected as a

thermal trough extending out of northern California into western

Oregon/Washington promotes hot, dry, unstable, and localized breezy

winds.
