FNAK71 PAFC 201631 FWSAER Spot Forecast for Chosen Frozen (School Group Winter Camp)...National Park Service National Weather Service Anchorage AK 831 AM AKDT Fri Mar 20 2026 Forecast is based on forecast start time of 0800 AKDT on March 23. .DISCUSSION... The forecast area will be between high pressure and an Arctic airmass over the Yukon Territory and low pressure far to the south of the Gulf of Alaska. This will create winds through the gaps and passes of the Nabesna Mountains and the Wrangles, funneling from east to west. Additionally, an upper level disturbance will drop south over the area Monday into Tuesday, which will increase the winds. Temperatures will continue to be below normal for this time of year for that area given the Arctic air over the Yukon. There remains some uncertainty on the timing of the disturbance moving through and how the winds will funnel through mountain gaps into the Jack Lake and Kendesnii camp area. A note on this forecast: there are no weather observations in this area that we have access to, so local knowledge on wind patterns may be helpful as our observational network in this area is sparse. This forecast represents our best estimates for temperatures and winds. In some ways, the winds through the forecast area early next week may be similar to how they were earlier this week, though the airmass should be slightly warmer. .MONDAY...
