...River Statement For The Alabama River...



.Heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours is producing rises on the

Alabama River. However, levels are expected to remain below

established flood stages, and any overflow along the river should be

of minor nature.





The Alabama River at Selma.

* At 9:30 AM CDT Monday the stage was 29.6 feet.

* Action stage is 30.0 feet.

* Flood stage is 45.0 feet.

* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 43.8 feet

  early Thursday afternoon.

* Impact...At 30.0 feet...Pasture lands below Selma become flooded.





The Alabama River at R.F. Henry Lock and Dam.

* At 10:00 AM CDT Monday the stage was 104.2 feet.

* Action stage is 122.0 feet.

* Flood stage is 122.0 feet.

* Forecast...The river will rise to 118.3 feet early tomorrow

  afternoon. It will then fall to 118.1 feet early Wednesday morning.

  It will rise to 120.1 feet early Wednesday afternoon. It will then

  fall to 120.0 feet Wednesday evening. It will rise to 121.2 feet

  early Thursday afternoon. It will then fall again and remain below

  flood stage.

* Impact...At 122.0 feet...Flooding of agricultural lands begins.





Another statement will be issued by Tuesday morning, or sooner if

conditions warrant.

It is emphasized that these forecasts are based on rainfall that has

already occurred and on additional rainfall expected during the next

48 hours.  If more rainfall than is currently forecast occurs it may
