...River Statement For The Cahaba River...



.Heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours is producing rises on the

Cahaba River. However, levels are expected to remain below

established flood stages, and any overflow along the river should be

of minor nature.





The Cahaba River at Suttle.

* At 8:00 PM CDT Sunday the stage was 10.1 feet.

* Action stage is 28.0 feet.

* Flood stage is 32.0 feet.

* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 28.2 feet

  early Wednesday afternoon.

* Impact...At 32.0 feet...Flooding of pasture lands and low-lying

  agricultural lands occurs in the Suttle area.





The Cahaba River at Marion Junction.

* At 8:00 PM CDT Sunday the stage was 10.3 feet.

* Action stage is 15.0 feet.

* Flood stage is 36.0 feet.

* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 30.9 feet

  Wednesday evening.

* Impact...At 15.0 feet...Flooding around Oakmulgee Creek begins and

  cattle need to be moved to higher ground. Overflow of pasture lands

  increases at stages above 20 feet.





Another statement will be issued by Monday evening, or sooner if

conditions warrant.

It is emphasized that these forecasts are based on rainfall that has

already occurred and on additional rainfall expected during the next

48 hours.  If more rainfall than is currently forecast occurs it may

become necessary to revise these forecasts upward.
