...River Statement For The Cahaba River...



.Heavy rainfall tomorrow is expected to produce rises on the Cahaba

River. However, levels are expected to remain below established flood

stages, and any overflow along the river should be of minor nature.





The Cahaba River at Marion Junction.

* At 7:00 PM CDT Saturday the stage was 6.1 feet.

* Action stage is 15.0 feet.

* Flood stage is 36.0 feet.

* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 32.5 feet

  early Thursday morning.

* Impact...At 15.0 feet...Flooding around Oakmulgee Creek begins and

  cattle need to be moved to higher ground. Overflow of pasture lands

  increases at stages above 20 feet.





The Cahaba River at Suttle.

* At 8:00 PM CDT Saturday the stage was 6.6 feet.

* Action stage is 28.0 feet.

* Flood stage is 32.0 feet.

* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 29.1 feet

  Wednesday evening.

* Impact...At 32.0 feet...Flooding of pasture lands and low-lying

  agricultural lands occurs in the Suttle area.





Another statement will be issued by Sunday morning, or sooner if

conditions warrant.

It is emphasized that these forecasts are based on rainfall that has

already occurred and on additional rainfall expected during the next

48 hours.  If more rainfall than is currently forecast occurs it may

become necessary to revise these forecasts upward.
